Minister KTR reviewed the problems of sanitation workers

Hyderabad, Sept 13: The Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao held a review meeting with sanitation workers unions here on Tuesday.

He stated that, The State government will crack the whip on officials and public representatives who are misusing their office and forcing municipal sanitation workers for their domestic works. The Municipal Commissioners concerned will be suspended if such activities come to the fore in their jurisdiction.

"The government will ensure the welfare of sanitation workers. They are meant to work for the municipal offices concerned but not for individuals," he asserted.

The Minister, who enquired into various issues pertaining to the welfare of sanitation workers and their problems, said the government was examining the feasibility of issuing health cards.

He assured them to implement facilities pertaining to ESI and provident fund to sanitation workers shortly. He also promised to consider providing double-bedroom houses for sanitation workers who do not have one.

Responding to problems raised by them, Rama Rao pointed out that the State government had hiked salaries to workers in various departments and was positive to increase them for sanitation workers working in municipal bodies with good revenue.

However, it is yet to take a decision on those working in small municipalities and Nagara Panchayats which have low income. "The Chief Minister is aware of the plight of sanitation workers and after officials submit a report in this regard, we will present the case before the Chief Minister and take a final decision," he assured.
