Facebook fined 1.2 million Euros

Madrid Spain Sept 12: The national data protection watchdog in Spain has ordered a fine of 1.2 million euros ($1.4 million) on Social Media platform Facebook for allegedly collecting personal information from users in Spain.The data protection agency has also said that the data collected could then be used for advertising.

The agency has said that we have ordered the fine after an investigation was conducted on the social media company in countries such as Spain, Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands.

The investigation has revealed that the Facebook has collected the following information

* Gender
* Religious beliefs
* Personal tastes
* Browsing history

and the company has not informed the users how such information would be used.

The agency has also claimed that "the social network uses specifically protected data for advertising, among other purposes, without obtaining users express consent as data protection law demands, a serious infringement."

However the company has not responded to the issue and currently many other countries have also started the process to sue the company if they have found any infringement of data privacy of citizens.
