Minister KTR meets new Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi, Sept 10: Telangana State Minister for Textiles and Industries K. Taraka Rama Rao urged Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Smriti Irani to support the expansion of handloom, aerospace and defense industries in Telangana.

On Saturday, KTR met with ministers at New Delhi and discussed several issues related to the state.He requested the Union Handlooms and Textiles Minister Smriti Irani to grant Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT), National Institute of Textiles, Handloom Export Promotion Council and other institutions to Telangana.



He recalled The Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) in Nellore district has gone to Andhra Pradesh after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Hence, Telangana students are going to go to Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu for studying Diploma in handloom technology.

"Pochampalli, Gadwal, Narayana Silk Dresses are spiked Telangana fame into the continental level and there is a need for the new IIHT to the state. The place and the building are in favor of establishing the IIHT in Pochampally Handloom Park", he added.
