Warangal bags SKOCH Swachh Bharat Award

Warangal, Sept 7: The prestigious SKOCH Swachh Bharat award will be presented to the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) announced on Wednesday.

Warangal Urban Collector Amrapali Kata and the Commissioner Shruti Ojha will receive the award at the 49th Skoch summit scheduled held on September 8 and 9 at Constitution Club of India, New Delhi.

The GWMC with the technical support of Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) has been implementing several initiatives to achieve comprehensive sanitation improvements on mission mode.



Warangal city won the Skoch "Order of Merit" award on sanitation because it is the first city to have introduced exclusive toilets for women, the first city to have toilets in the fuel stations in the city to be available for use by everyone, the first city to have more than 45 good quality and well maintained public toilets with the investments by the private sector.

On other hand, the GWMC also issued preliminary notification August 12 to declare the city as the 'open defecation free' one by September 30.
