Supreme Court about Cow Vigilantism

New Delhi, Sept 6: The Supreme Court on Wednesday has asked: "each state to appoint a Senior Police Officer in each district as a nodal officer to take action against cow vigilantism".

The above judgment was passed after hearing a plea filed by Tehseen S. Poonawalla seeking to stop cow vigilantism.

The CJI Deepak Misra has responded and said that "You petitioners know that how a large number of animals were slaughtered a few days back. You must also file petitions against it."

The apex court also urged the Central and the State Governments to take effective steps to stop cow vigilante groups or body from misusing the law.

Many experts have hailed the judgment and said that "appointment of nodal officers in districts would ensure that cow vigilantism could be stopped to some extent".
