Govt rules out cutting taxes on petrol, diesel

New Delhi, August 31: The Union Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan made it clear that the tax on petrol and diesel would not be reduced. The Petrol prices have risen by more than Rs. 6 per liter since the beginning of July. This is the highest price rise since August 2014.

The diesel price has reached Rs 57.01 per liter in Delhi. Pradhan dismissed the rumors that the Center would cut taxes to reduce the impact of the price. The tax system has not come up for review. "That situation has not come where we should relook at tax structure," Pradhan told to media.

On the other hand, Pradhan said that the ministry is looking forward to bring petrol and diesel into the GST regime. We are making requests for the Union Finance and State for this. The increase in diesel prices would have a negative effect on the transport sector, "he said.
