Aadhar Data Compromised ?:Wiki Leaks

New Delhi Aug 28: A secret information has created a storm.A report was published by Wiki Leaks. The main highlights of the report are

* It claimed that CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) of USA is using tools that have been developed by Cross Match, a US-based technology provider for cyber spying to Acess the Indian Aadhar Data.

* The report has also claimed that UIDAI an agency responsible for issuing and maintenance of Aadhar cards utilizes software developed by Cross Match to collect Bio metric data of citizens.

Aadhar is a 12 digit unique ID card issued to citizens which contain biometric details such as Fingerprints and Iris details.

However, the government officials have denied the reports and said that the data cannot be acessed because it is in encrypted form.

Experts have criticized the government and said that such leaks would be harmful to the country and they have raised the issue of Data Security. They have also demanded that there should be a comprehensive review of the Aadhar policy because recently Supreme Court has declared Privacy as a Fundamental Right and the judgment has far reaching implications.

The government has argued that persons/Agency can be imprisoned or subject to punishment if the data is leaked and there are strict provisions under the Aadhar Act and said that all fundamental rights are subject to reasonable checks and balances.

Let's hope that the government brings a new policy on data protection so that peoples concerns are clarified.
