Government orders merger of NCRB and BPRD

New Delhi Aug 6: An order was issued recently.
The government has decided to merge NCRB with BPRD.

The government has said that the merger would improve the efficiency of development works related to policing and improve administrative efficiency and optimal utilization of resources. Union Home Ministry on August 4 has issued an order on this issue.

Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) chief Meeran C Borwankar has said that "the merger will boost crime data collection and research efforts of the two organizations."

He has also said that BPRD Director General (DG) will be the head of the merged new entity, NCRB Director, an Additional DG rank post will report to the former.

NCRB is a central police organization created in 1986 to collect crime data, on various parameters, from across all the states of the country. BPRD, a central police organization was created in 1970, to study, research and develop on subjects and issues related to policing.

Currently, both these organizations work under home ministry.
