96 Tax evaders worth Rs.3896.53 Crores: Income Tax

New Delhi, Aug 06: The Income Tax Department has announced that the tax evasion of Rs 3,896.53 crore by 96 tax evaders across the country.

Among those 96 tax evaders, mostly 30 members are from Telugu states only with tax evasion of Rs 1045.92 crores.

In the list, Uday M Acharya of Mumbai (with a net outflow of Rs 779.04 crore) is in the first place. The Income Tax Department has not received at least sufficient assets to recover from him.

The IT department has said that the 2nd evader was Hyderabad-based Totem Infrastructure Limited has been accused of tax evasion of over Rs 400 crore.The company's directors are currently escaped.

The Income Tax Department has revealed that the company was doing contracts, which was not paying tax during 2006-12.

Most of the tax evaders are fled away.
