Medical devices must carry MRP

New Delhi Aug 2: A clarification was issued yesterday.
The Government informed parliament that "All Medical devices must mandatorily carry maximum retail price (MRP) on packages from January 1, 2018 ".

Mansukh L Mandaviya Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping, and Chemicals and Fertilisers informed the above in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

Minister has said that we have made amendments to the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. he has said that we have taken the decision after the consumer affairs, food and public distribution ministry has issued amendments making the rules applicable to medical devices also.

His reply was to a question asked: "whether any guideline was likely to be issued or has been issued by the Ministry for medical devices to declare MRP?". He has also said that "amended rules shall be applicable to e-commerce companies also".
