Government blocks websites, social media links

New Delhi Aug 2: A question was answered today. The government today had informed that it has blocked

* 735 social media links
* 596 websites
* some of groups and sites engaged in flaring up anti-India sentiments were also blocked.
* The figures were reported till June 2017.

PP Chaudhary the Minister of State for Electronics and IT has stated the above facts in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. Minister has also said that "the blockage was based on various court orders as well as recommendations of an expert committee ".

He has also said that we have received many complaints regarding the misuse of web/social media in the country. Choudary has said that we have taken action under section 69A of Information Technology Act, 2000.
