President Pranab Mukherjee Attends Farewell

New Delhi, July 23: With NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind winning the presidential election on Thursday, the incumbent Pranab Mukherjee's term in the highest constitutional office of the country comes to an end.

On Sunday, members of Parliament will organize a farewell ceremony for the outgoing president in the Central Hall.

"When I first entered the hallowed Parliament, I was 34-years-old. I represented one of the six seats from Rajya Sabha. I attended my first session in July 1969," says Pranab Mukherjee.

After Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Pranab Mukherjee takes his position on the dais and begins his farewell address.

Vice-president Hamid Ansari recounts the time spent in the last five years under the Pranab Mukherjee presidency. "Our traditions have encouraged argumentative Indian, not the intolerant Indian," Ansari recounts Pranab Mukherjee as telling him.

Hamid Ansari, who served as vice-president for five years, calls the President of India a "consummate diplomat" in his farewell address, as he recounts a long and distinguished career.
