Telangana to become open defecation-free state : KTR

Hyderabad, July 22: The Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration and urban development KT Rama Rao on Friday has ordered the officials of all municipalities to setup the LED lights in all streets of the state up to Diwali festival.

KTR also has fixed August 15 as the deadline for all municipalities and corporations to make them open defecation-free.

In a video conference with municipal commissioners on Friday, the Minister said the government was taking steps to make the towns clean and hygienic.

He said the government wanted to declare all towns including municipalities/corporations as open defecation-free on August 15 and hence it was mandatory for all to achieve this target. He said action would be taken against the commissioners who did not reach the targets.

The Minister informed that till now Madhira, Bhainsa, Bhongir, Ibrahimpatnam, Sattupally, Achampet, Huzurabad, Huzurnagar, Gajwel, Jagityal, Shadnagar, Suryapet, Siddipet, Sircilla, Boduppal and Narsampet municipalities had achieved ODF (open defecation-free) status.

The Minister asked the commissioners to lay special focus on hygiene keeping the rainy season in mind. He asked the officials to immediately remove the silt from the nalas.
