Indian Railways is biggest Litigant

New Delhi, July 17: some facts were revealed recently. The Law Ministry website has revealed some interesting facts regarding the pending court cases in the country.

* Indian Railways is the biggest litigant among the government departments.
* Railways has nearly 66,000 pending cases in courts.
* More than 10000 cases are pending for more than 10 years.
* Majority of the pending court cases are filed by government departments.
* Currently the government faces 369 contempt cases across courts.
* The finance ministry has 15,646 cases pending.
* The Ministry of Communication has 12,621 cases pending in courts.
* The Ministry of Home Affairs has 11,600 pending court cases.
* Ministry of Panchayati Raj has least cases with 3 pending cases.

Finally, the government has said that we are trying to reduce the burden on courts by bringing a National Litigation Policy.
