President distributes 2.5 crores of LPG

New Delhi, July 16: President Pranab Mukherjee presented a free LPG connection to a woman today under the Ujjwala scheme. Simultaneously, gas connections have been provided to 2.5 crore households under this scheme to provide free LPG connection to poor families. The government has set a target to provide free kitchens to 5 crore women under the Ujjwala scheme, half of which was achieved today.

In May last year, the government launched a Ujjwala scheme to provide five crore women of poor families with free LPG connection in 3 years. Its purpose is to reduce the use of pollutants, such as wood and Dung, to reduce the use of fuel.

According to the World Health Organization, 13 lakh people die every year in the country due to the use of fuel pollutants. After high blood pressure, burning of wood and dung in India leads to the death of pollution in and around the house.

Mukherjee handed over LPG connection to Gauri Sarkar at his residence Jangipur House here. With this, under the Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana, 25 Lakh poor families have been provided with free LPG connections.

In an event organized on the occasion of the President's hometown, Jangipur and a total of 10 women Murshidabad free LPG connections have been assigned. Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was also present on this occasion. After the Prime Minister tweeted, "Mukherjee 2.5 millionth free LPG connections Gauri Shankar have Jangipur House West Bengal. I am proud to be involved in this." The government is aiming to provide LPG connections to 80 per cent of the households by March 2019. It was 72.8 percent on one April.

The government has allocated Rs 8,000 crore for providing free LPG connections to women of the families who live below the poverty line. In another tweet, Pradhan said, "We have a team of dedicated officers who make 2.5 million Ujjala possible. I am lucky about this." He also shared the picture of President and Benefit.

Before this, Abhijeet Mukherjee, son of MP from Jangipur and son of Pranab Mukherjee welcomed the guests who attended the distribution function at Jangipur Bhawan.
