Iceberg breaks in Antartica

Paris, July 13: A rare disaster has taken place yesterday. Scientists have said that a large part of Iceberg has broken from the Antartica Continent. They have said that a 5,800-square kilometer (2,200-square mile) section of Larsen C (ice shelf) finally broke away on July 12. the specifications of the iceberg are

* Larger than the U.S. state of Delaware.

* Has a volume twice that of Lake Erie.

* 350 metres (1,100 feet) thick.

* The iceberg weighs more than a trillion tons.

* It occupies 12 % of total surface Area.

Scientists have said that such events occur naturally but such large-scale ice shelf calving away is the first time and this has increased the risk of disintegrating the remaining iceberg. Let's hope that such incidents don't happen in future.
