Supreme court orders

New Delhi July 11: The Supreme Court yesterday has ordered all mental hospital which is being run by the states and union territories to implement the guidelines framed by the Central Government. The Apex Court has also directed the states and UTs to file a status report.

The supreme Court has passed this order during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Gaurav Kumar Bansal. Earlier on February 22, the apex Court has ordered the Centre to frame a policy for rehabilitation of persons who have been cured of their mental illness after they have gone treatment.

Earlier the court has said that a person cannot be kept in mental hospital for a long time even after his illness is cured and urged the center to look into this issue. Finally, the central government has framed the guidelines and submitted to the apex court.

Let's hope that all states follow supreme court's order so that number of new mental patients can be treated.
