Hyderabad, July 11: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari said that schools, colleges, universities will be recognized as the best green educational institutions for preserving the plant.

On Monday, he reviewed and educated journalists in the Secretariat on the water in educational institutions.

The Education Department decided to introduce environmental protection as a subject in school curriculum from the next academic year, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari said here on Monday.

He said the government was seriously considering the introduction of the new subject to bring awareness among the students.

The Minister said a 'Green Day' will be observed by the Education Department on July 15. The department has targeted planting of 50 lakh saplings during the third phase of Telanganaku Haritha Haram (THH) on July 15.

Speaking about the 'Green Day' schedule, Srihari said that from 9 am to 10 am, rallies will be taken out by school children in villages and towns. From 10 am to 11 am, plantation drive will be taken up in all school premises and from 11 am to 12 noon, essay and elocution competitions on Haritha Haram will be conducted in educational institutions across the State. Students who excel in the competitions will be given prizes on August 15.

The winners will receive prizes on August 15th. Funding for employment of schools for the protection of plants can be avoided if the funds are not covered under employment guarantee.
