Karimnagar, July 09: Ellampalli, the reservoir has been completed but the canals do not exist, says Harish Rao. According to sources information, the land is collected quickly and The Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao suggested officials get rid of lakhs of acres in Kharif.

On Saturday, he reviewed 'water reservoirs, canal-land acquisition' in the Karimnagar district. Harish Rao asks MLAs that the legislators would cooperate with the authorities to speed up the land acquisition.

The 400 acre collected for this would be handed over to the farmers who applied for it to be resettled in the rehabilitation project. The Minister said that if the application does not apply properly, the public will be utilized for use.

Irrigation Minister said that agriculture in the State was all set to be freed from the gamble with the monsoon as the farmers of the State would get assured irrigation for two crops a year.

Addressing a well attended public meeting at Dharmapuri after laying the foundation for the modernization of the Rollavagu project in the district, he said completion of Kaleshwaram project would mark the end of drought and distress in the State.

The project would help in lifting Godavari water in a big way for filling several projects within the basin, including Sriram Sagar, that was neglected by successive governments. The government had allocated Rs 186 crore for strengthening its canal system. Even the flood flow canal of SRSP would be filled by lifting water from Kaleshwaram to extend irrigation facility to Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Beerpur and other areas in the district.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has fulfilled his poll promise by sanctioning funds for modernisation of Rollavagu project, he said and added that the capacity of the project would be enhanced to 1 tmc from the present 0.20 tmc. The works had been taken up with Rs 60 crore.

At present, eight lift irrigation schemes have been working on the Godavari, he said and promised to sanction another three schemes. Hence, the entire constituency would be benefited with the drawl of Godavari waters.

Nizamabad MP K. Kavitha said the Rollavagu project modernisation would provide water to over 25,000 acres of ayacut. The State government has introduced a slew of welfare measures during the past three years for the uplift of poor and weaker sections.
