Ambedkar statue damaged

Hyderabad, July 07: The Balapur police officials have been arrested two persons on charges of damaging the statue of Dr. B R Ambedkar, here on Thursday

The Arrested person has been identified as Boda Naveen (19) and Anagondal Raju (19) allegedly trespassed into the compound of the Ambedkar Yuvajana Sangham (AYS) in SC Colony in Balapur and damaged the statue, which was kept in a room.

The incident came to light after a colony resident Koppula Suresh, lodged a police complaint against the two by providing as evidence a video that was recorded by the suspects themselves.

"Naveen and Shiva, both residents of Nadergul village, trespassed into the premises of AYS and damaged the statue," the police said, adding that they recorded the entire episode on their mobile phone and uploaded it on social media and WhatsApp groups.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 295, 448, 427, and 504 of IPC and they were remanded.
