Flash showers in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 07: Heavey rains hit the Hyderabad city here on Thursday evening. Current month July started on a dry note but twin cities received moderate to heavy rain especially towards the evening.

Several areas in the twin cities received flash showers heavy rain for a short duration amounting to 4 cm rainfall, the highest in the day. The last time the city received heavy rain was on June 8, 2017 when around 8 cm of rain was recorded. Since then, the city has been recording normal rainfall or moderate rainy spells.

Places like Begumpet, Ameerpet, Punjagutta, Bowenpally, Qutbullapur, Tirumalgiri, Borabanda, and Charminar reported water stagnation leading to slow traffic movement or jams. Since the beginning of the month, the southwest monsoon currents over Telangana have been weak.

The India Meteorological Department-Hyderabad has declared that only a weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal would revive the monsoon currents.

According to the IMD, the forecast for the state was light to moderate rain or thunderstorms very likely to occur at a few places over Telangana state. On Friday, the city will witness a generally overcast sky with one or two spells of rain or thunderstorms.
