Bandaru Dattatreya assured the Beedi Workers

Hyderabad, July 3: The Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya has announced that to ease the cash crunch following commencement of farming activities, the Reserve Bank of India will release Rs 1,700 crore to Telangana State on Monday.

While the erstwhile districts of Medak and Hyderabad will receive Rs 200 crore, the remaining Rs 1,300 crore will be distributed in equal amounts among the undivided eight districts.

The Union Labour Minister assured that the Central government would take corrective measures after examining all such teething problems and consulting the GST Council within a couple of months.

He admitted that the beedi industry is forced to pay a tax of around 46 percent due to the taxation of 18 per cent on Tendu leaves and 28 per cent on the beedi (end product) which is a major burden on the beedi industry, one of the largest employers in Telangana State.

"We will discuss these issues at a meeting of the stakeholders of the beedi industry by this month end, before taking up the issue with the Centre," he assured.
