18-month-old child falls into open borewell

Hyderabad June 23: In a drastic situation, An 18-month-old girl, Veena, accidentally fell into a 60-ft-deep borewell on a farm at Chanveli village in Chevella mandal of the district on Thursday evening.

She fell into the well while playing in the fields.

To save the girl, National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) personnel and mining experts from Singareni Collieries have plunged into action to rescue the girl.

Veena fell into the open borewell when she was playing in the fields along with her elder sister Akshita, and when their parents, Yadaiah and Renuka, both migrant workers from Gorepalli village of Vikarabad district, were at work at an adjacent farmhouse in the village, at around 6.45 pm.



The elder sister immediately alerted the parents. Soon after receiving the information, Chevella inspector Guravaiah and sub-inspector Sridhar Reddy, along with revenue divisional officer Venkateshwarlu, rushed to the spot along with fire tenders, ambulance services and excavators.

While pumping oxygen into the well continuously, the authorities simultaneously started digging a parallel well to reach the girl.

The landlord had attempted digging a bore well a few days ago but left it open as it failed.

Telangana transport minister P Mahender Reddy is personally coordinating the rescue operations.

By Friday morning, personnel from NDRF and experts from Singareni Collieries in Karimnagar district were roped in for the rescue operations.

"Indications are that the girl is still alive. We are making our best efforts to rescue her," the minister said.
