TS seeks GST exemption for Mission Kakatiya, Bhagiratha

Hyderabad June 21: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday advised Minister for Industries and Information Technology KT Rama Rao on Tuesday to submit a letter written by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao seeking exemption from Goods and Service Tax (GST) for irrigation projects and Mission Bhagiratha.

KT Rama Rao met the Union Finance Minister in New Delhi and raised several issues related to the State, including GST exemptions. On the request of Rao, the Union Minister suggested that "if a written request comes from the Chief Minister, we will consider exemption of GST for projects in next Council meeting," Jaitley told KTR.

Besides this, Rao also sought GST exemption for granite and beedi industries as a large number of people are dependent on beedi and granite industries. The other issues that were raised by the Minister included a further rise in Fiscal Responsibility Budget Management (FRMB), clearance of Central Sales Tax (CST) dues of Rs 350 crore and release of Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) dues of Rs 450 crore.

KTR also requested Jaitley to expedite the Cantonment land exchange proposal since the State government had already sent the proposal to the Centre to regulate traffic flow from Cantonment area.
