Punjab Assembly passes SGST bill

Chandigarh, India June 19: A bill was passed by the State Assembly.
The Punjab Assembly today had unanimously passed State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, 2017. The bill was introduced in the House by Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.

Members of the assembly such as Parminder Singh Dhindsa former Finance Minister, Kanwar Sandhu AAP leader and Som Prakash BJP MLA have spoken on the bill.

Kanwar had expressed his concerns related to an increase in the price of agriculture equipment under the GST regime because of "high" tax rates levied on these items. The AAP legislator also added that Punjabi cinema will be worst affected because of the GST rollout. Dhindsa A SAD leader had proposed an amendment seeking zero tax rate on agriculture inputs but it was rejected.

Finance minister had given reply to objections raised and he said that we will make sure that our voice is heard in GST council and farmers don't suffer. Later the bill was passed unanimously the bill with a voice vote. Last month Neighbouring state Haryana has also passed SGST Bill.
