Govt ready to pay Rs 10,000 crore for farmers :KCR

Hyderabad June 17: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao today said the government is prepared to pay electricity of Rs 10,000 crore for lift irrigation from the state budget and also Rs 6000 to Rs 7000 crore for free power supply to the farmers in the state.

He also said that state budget would cross Rs two lakh crore by 2020.

Transco Chairman and Managing Director D Prabhakar Rao has submitted a comprehensive report, mentioning about the works that have been taken and completed, as well as the works that are proposed and to be taken up, to the Chief Minister at a meeting, held at Pragathi Bhavan here.

The Chief Minister made it very clear that there is no other more priority before the government, than the welfare of the ryots.


It is also estimated that once the lift projects are completed, the annual expenditure for maintenance on power supply would be Rs 10,000 crore.

The Chief Minister has repeatedly mentioned that in the state, majority of people depend on agriculture and as such, it is the primary responsibility of the government to provide water for Irrigation.

Specific instructions have been issued to pay the power bills through the Irrigation department.

No other state has such largescale elaborate arrangements for lift irrigation, as is done in Telangana, he added.
