PM Modi meets Nawaz Sharif

Astana, June 09: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Astana ahead of SCO summit.

Mr. Modi and Mr. Sharif attended a welcome banquet to the small grouping that currently comprises China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.

On his second day, Mr. Modi landed in Astana to attend the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), where India and Pakistan will be inducted as full members.

This was the first meeting of the two leaders to build on common interests in eight months.

According to sources, the two Prime Ministers exchanged pleasantries at the function, but no bilateral meeting was expected.
