Alternative Flours for Biscuits

Hyderabad, June 5: Do you feel bored by eating biscuits made of Refined wheat flour ?. Many people don't prefer biscuits made of Maida because of high-fat content and the Celiac disease (Gluten intolerance) these biscuits cause when consumed.

Food Technologists say that Maida cannot be replaced 100 % as the main Ingredient but alternatives can be used up to a limited extent. So try these alternative flours for better taste and health.

* Almond Flour:25 percent of maida can be substituted with Almond flour. Almonds must be soaked overnight and then must be dried. The dried Almonds must be crushed to make flour and the flour can be substituted.

* Soya Flour: It is a good alternative because it contains a high amount of protein, calcium and fibre. 1/3rd part can be substituted.

*Pearl Millet Four: half of all-purpose flour can be substituted with PMF because it contains a high amount of nutrients.

* Barley Flour: It can also be substituted because of high fiber and low cholesterol.

* Rice Flour: It can also be substituted but the consistency and texture of biscuit get affected.

Not only above alternatives but Whole Wheat flour (Atta) along with the above flour combination can be used.

Finally, if you want sweet taste in biscuit you can use coconut flour up to 20 % and it absorbs more water.
