Police to install HD cameras

Hyderabad, June 4: The Rachkonda Police commissionerate have signed an agreement with private company Matrix Tech on May 21, to set up 224 new high-definition cameras in their jurisdiction.

According to senior police officers, these cameras would automatically detect any kind of traffic violation and also help them in monitoring the movements of anti-social elements.

"These cameras would be able to capture higher-resolution images, which would help us in keeping a tab on anti-social elements," said a top police officer from the commissionerate, adding that the Centre for Good Governance would be assisting them in executing and implementing the project.

The new cameras would have features like a blur, motion detection, intrusion detection, unauthorized parking and unattended baggage, among others.

"We had undertaken a survey where we identified 30 sensitive and critical areas in the commissionerate. The cameras would be set up there on a priority basis, while they have only 900 cameras," the officer added.

These 900 cameras that had been set up were funded by colonies and communities as part of the 'safe city concept'. These devices were put up in various colonies, including Nagole, LB Nagar, and Malkajgiri.

"Lack of cameras has provided miscreants a sense of confidence. Now, we can track their movements. In the first stage, we will cover the Malkajgiri zone, where there is a spurt in burglaries," he said, adding that after Malkajgiri, they would install more cameras in LB Nagar and Bhongir zones.
