Cabinet expansion after Presidential elections

New Delhi, May 30th: The Government of Narendra Modi is planning a Cabinet reshuffle after the presidential election on 25 July, according to reports. According to the Sources, the top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) thinks the reshuffle and extension are important to set up the Cabinet for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

After the death of Anil Madhav Dave, there is a need to fill vacancies, at Paryavaran Bhavan, the headquarters of the ministry of environment, forests and climate change. Similarly, After the left of Manohar Parrikar as the Chief Minister of Goa now the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is looking into the Defense Department.

Apart from this, the mini, small and medium industries minister Kalraj Mishra will also be replaced while he is turning into 76 in July this year and he will be replaced by a new minister.

The Modi government has an unwritten provision that the age of Union Ministers should be less than 75 years old. Najma Heptullah was sent to Manipur as the governor after completing her 75 years as same as her now there is a chance to send Mishra also for another place as Governer.

Some of the ministers are likely to be appointed as Cabinet Ministries as part of the reorganization. The performance of Power and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal and Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan are among the prominent names in the list.

In the rest of the two-year term, the NDA government seems to have new faces from party lines in the cabinet. Modi and Amit Shah are not satisfied with the performance of the Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.

According to Article 72 of the Constitution, the total number of Ministers, including the Prime Minister, in the Council shall not exceed 15 percent of the members of the House of the People. This is applicable to both the Central and States. Therefore, the maximum numbers of ministers that the Cabinet can contain is 82.
