University of Hyderabad emerged top in the state

Hyderabad, May 26: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has emerged top place in the state and ranked 8th across the country for research output among universities in natural sciences, which was announced by Nature Index Survey here on Thursday.

The UoH is the only university to emerge in the top 10 of Nature Index Survey. The Nature Index functions as an indicator of high-quality research in Natural Sciences. The survey was conducted by taking scientific research institutes, universities, Indian Institutes of Technology among others.

All research outputs for UoH published between February 1, 2016, and January 31, 2017, were tracked by the Nature Index.

"I congratulate the faculty colleagues whose outstanding research in science schools has earned this distinction by the UoH to be the only university in the top 10 rank," said Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor, UoH.

The Vice-Chancellor pointed out that it was by no means a simple achievement in the current scenario where competition in quality and quantity of research output is very high.

The Nature Index is a database of author affiliation information collated from research articles published in an independently selected group of 68 high-quality science journals.

The database is compiled by Nature Publishing Group (NPG). The Nature Index provides high-quality research output at the institutional, national and regional level.

An article score of 31, a fractional score of 19.33 with 25.92 per cent domestic and 74.08 per cent international contributions, have put the UoH on the eighth spot on the list, the university said, adding that in 2016 also it stood at the same position.
