Uber to stop drunken drive cases

Kolkata, May 17: As we know that, Drunken driving cases are hiking excessively, especially during night time.To curb this kind of drink drive cases, The largest cab service provider has taken a decision here on Thursday.

The Uber had launched a program in Kolkata in partnership with bars, restaurants, and nightclubs to discourage drink driving.

UberBADD, or Bars Against Drink Driving, seeks to raise awareness about responsible drinking and the need for easy access to "reliable and affordable" transport late at night, Uber India Head (Central Operations) Pradeep Parameswaran said in a statement.

Uber says the initiative is being encouraged by the Kolkata police. Under the partnership, Uber will set up cab kiosks at bars, nightclubs, and restaurants to discourage driving after drinking beyond the permissible limit, Mr. Parameswaran said.

"We are happy to receive the encouragement and support from Kolkata Police and look forward to providing solutions to help reduce drunk driving incidents in the city. There is a growing need to raise awareness against drunk driving and we will continue to work across cities to provide alternative mobility options like Uber," Mr. Parameswaran said in the statement.

Customers can approach the kiosk to book a cab. They don't need to use the Uber app. The kiosk will track the trip.

"We are pleased to partner with Kolkata's top bars and restaurants to help Kolkatans make decisions regarding better safety when drinking or on a night out," Mr. Parameswaran said.

A Kolkata nightclub spokesperson said, "We are confident UberBADD will ensure a safe ride for our patrons after spending quality time and we will extend all help."
