Rajinikanth opened up about his political entry

Chennai May 17: On Monday, superstar Rajinikanth held a meeting with his fans in Chennai after eight long years, and in the meeting, he opened up on speculations over whether he will join politics.

Rajini said that he had only once supported a political party in the past and his fans and people of Tamil Nadu ensured the coalition emerge victoriously. In 1996, Rajini supported the DMK-TMC alliance which swept the assembly elections. Many attributed Rajinikanth's comments against AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa for that party's defeat.

Ever since Rajini's name has been dragged into politics whenever there are elections. 'People have on several occasions misused my name to gain power. I have time and again clarified that I don't support anyone. People have been speculating for long about me joining politics. I am not intending to join politics' Rajini clarified.

One major reason for speculations on Rajini's political entry getting intense in the recent times is BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi meeting him at his Chennai residence ahead of 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Finally, hinting the possibility of joining politics in future, Rajini said, "If I ever join politics, I won't allow money-minded and power-hungry people to join me. I'll keep them away from politics. If the God decides, I will join politics solely for the welfare of people. As of now, god wants me to entertain people as an actor, and I am happy serving the masses in this way," said Rajinikanth.
