First Milk bank at Niloufer Hospital in Telangana

Hyderabad, May 03: Here is good news for infant babies, who were still having the scarcity of Milk(lactate)for just born babies.

For the first time in the State, a milk bank for infants who are born before the due date will be inaugurated at Niloufer Hospital on May 30. There are just 15 milk banks in the country and the milk bank at Niloufer Hospital will be the first one in the State.

Mothers of pre-term babies struggle to lactate, which forces parents and hospitals to use substitutes, which are powdered formula milk, to feed infants.

Dhaatri, a non-profit organisation from Hyderabad, has come forward to set up the milk bank at Niloufer Hospital. Health Minister, Dr.C. Laxma Reddy, who met officials from Dhaatri on Tuesday, said that a milk bank will go a long way in nurturing and saving lives of severely underweight babies.

There are mothers who express milk in excess and on its part Dhaatri will collect milk from such mothers. The expressed milk will be stored and later on given to pre-term babies in the ICU wards of Niloufer Hospital.
