Serum Institute set to become the largest polio vaccine maker

Mumbai April 26: Serum Institute of India, the globes' largest vaccine manufacturer in terms of dosage will become world number 1 polio vaccine manufacturer in the world by the end of 2020 this news was announced by the company CEO Adar Poonawalla.
Under the leadership of the CEO, the company has been heavily focussing on the rapid expansion of the capacity and new vaccines.
In 2012 the company has acquired Bilthoven Biologicals in The Netherlands for euro 70 million now after 5 years the company has made another big acquisition of Nanotherapeutics, an injectable polio vaccine manufacturer a Czech company, for 72 million euros(approx 520 crore INR). with this acquisition, the serum institute capacity to manufacture polio vaccines will rise to 200 million dosage abroad which is 4 times the present capacity.
The company said the deal will come into effect by 2020.the institute also under the concept of Make in India is investing about Rs 1,500 crore in Pune to set up a 1.5 million sq ft vaccine manufacturing facility.
