Etela Rajender sought to reduce the charges on digital payments

Hyderabad, April 15: The Telangana Finance Minister Etela Rajender had requested the Central govt to waive the charges on digital transactions so that many number of merchants accept it. He said that the state government was taking measures to encourage cashless transactions.

Speaking to media at a special campaign of Digi-dhan mela organized by the State Level Bankers' Committee on Friday, Rajender said people, who always use cash when it is available in plenty, have now been slowly moving towards cashless transactions.

He urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take more measures for encouraging cashless transactions as it helps in controlling tax evasion.

On GST, the minister said that the Centre should adopt a scientific approach while deciding the reduce rates for the new tax system. According to him, the proposed tax slabs in GST should be revised. He hoped that the new tax regime would help the state in getting more revenue.

Principal finance secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, secretary Sandeep Sultania, chief general managers of SBI Mani Palvesan, Hardayal Prasad and V Thyagarajan, convener of SLBC, were present.
