Baba arrested for cheating woman

Hyderabad, April 14: The police officials on Thursday arrested a fake godman for cheating and threatening a woman who approached him for a remedy for her personal Problems.

According to the police officials, Shaik Omar Iqbal (38), a tailor from Yakutpura took Rs 20,000 from Razia Sultana, a resident of Kalapather, by making her believe that he had supernatural powers and could help her.

Razia Sultana's daughter Afsha had some 'marital issues' with her husband Shuja Quadri of Medchal. Afsha had approached the Medchal police sometime ago and a case was registered against Shuja for harassing her.

It was then that Razia Sultana, through a mediator, met Omar Iqbal, who told her that he could ensure that the case would be judged in their favour.

"Believing him, Razia gave him Rs 20,000 for some rituals. But with nothing changing for Afsha, she demanded her money back, following which Omer demanded Rs 1.5 lakh and threatened her," said M Srinivasa Rao, ACP.

The police registered a case under various sections of the IPC and also the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objection Advertisement) Act.
