Kothagudem, March 31: Finally, The central government has approved the airport project in Kothagudem, which is nearer to Khammam District on Thursday.

Already we know that The government has planning to set up 18 airports which together are estimated to cost nearly Rs 30,000 crore.

The Centre has given accorded permission to Telangana government to construct an airport at Kothagudem.

Kothagudem is the second Greenfield Airport after the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad which is 240 km away from Kothagudem. The district administration has acquired 1,500 acres land at Punuguduchelaka village in Kothagudem Mandal for the airport.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju told media persons here on Thursday that as part of Adhan scheme, the Centre had taken some decisions to expand domestic air travel facilities. "We have offered permission to the Telangana government to construct Kothagudem Airport", he said.

On completion of the related works and construction of the airport by the Telangana government, the Centre would launch air services, he said.

Ashok Gajapathi Raju also said they had offered permissions to run flight services from Kadapa to Hyderabad, Vijayawada, and Chennai through True Jet and Air Odisha operators.
