Why Aadhar for mid-day meals?

Hyderabad March 9: Communist Party of India (Marxist) senior leader and polite bureau member Brinda Karat expressed her anger over the Central Government s move to replace the dry rations with cash as part of the Integrated Child Development Scheme and called it a disastrous decision, on the occasion of International women s day here on Wednesday. Coupled with another decision to link the Mid-Day Meals Scheme with Aadhaar cards will be the greatest disservice and blow to children, especially the 14 crore between zero and six years of age and specifically girl children among them, Ms. Karat noted, speaking on the sidelines of the Women s Day celebrations organised by AIDWA, Telangana here on Wednesday. It leaves Prime Minister Narendra Modi s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao an empty slogan, she said, referring to an amended regulation pertaining to the ICDS as part of the implementation of the Food Security Act."The Prime Minister s office also wants to push further conditions. The mother has to show that the child has been immunised. Instead of seriously addressing the issue of malnutrition which is rampant in India, the Government is trying to put conditions on it," Ms. Karat fumed, severely castigating it as a blow to women on the International Women s Day. Addressing a meeting earlier here on Wednesday, she charged the Centre with making attempts to trample on the right to nutrition acquired through the Food Security Act. She also lambasted Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi s statements that teenage girls need to take control of their hormones. Instead, the Minister will do better by taking care of the hooligan army which issued rape threats to a college girl in Delhi, she said.If not, she should step down from her post. The Minister presiding over such decisions is more concerned about children s hormones rather than their nutrition.
