YSRCP MLA files case against Police

Amaravathi February 22: YSRCP MLA R K Roja on Tuesday lodged a case against the Andhra Pradesh police for confining her at the Gannavaram airport when she was on her way to attend National Parliament for Women in Amaravathi last week.In her petition, MLA complained that the police personnel had wrongfully confined her at the airport without any provocation from her.Roja said that she had been invited for the convention organized by the AP government, and in any case she had every right to move around in any place. She appealed to the court to take action against the police officials who had confined her and sent her back to Hyderabad without allowing her to participate in the convention.Speaking to the media, Roja said that her confinement at the airport was illegal as she did not cause any law and order problem."I received an invite for the Women s Parliament at Amaravathi and I was simply going to attend it. To my utter shock, the police rounded me up and bundled me in into their vehicle and forcibly sent me back to Hyderabad," she said. She added that the incident was a clear example of the Chandrababu Naidu government s "undemocratic and anti-women" style of functioning.
