Maharashtra Team to follow the Mission Kakatiya

Hyderabad, February 12: One of the best-developed schemes of Telangana, which had successfully implemented is termed as Mission Kakatiya.It is very useful for the irrigation purpose and also for the revival of minor irrigation tanks and chain-link tank system.It was established by the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandra Shekar Rao. While going to the matter, Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao on Saturday informed that a five-member team of Maharashtra Government would visit Telangana to study the Mission Kakatiya. Speaking to media persons on Saturday, Harish Rao said arrangements have been made to take the Maharashtra team for inspection of lakes which were revived as part of Mission Kakatiya.Though a team from Tamil Nadu is supposed to study Mission Kakatiya, the tour was canceled due to the sudden political developments in the State.However, the death of then Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and political developments that followed it forced the Tamil Nadu teams to visit to be rescheduled.So far, 11,000 minor irrigation tanks out of 46,531 tanks were restored in Telangana under Mission Kakatiya. Under the two phases of Mission Kakatiya, the state government gave administrative sanction for Rs 5,700 crore works. So far, Rs. 1,800 crores were spent. The target is to stabilize 15 lakh acres of ayacut in the first two phases of Mission Kakatiya. As per the estimates of the Irrigation department so far 5 lakh acres of ayacut was stabilized out of the targeted 15 lakhs acres. The remaining works are in progress. Irrigation chief engineer B Naagender Rao said Rs. 8.27 crore cubic meters of mud was unearthed so far under two phases of Mission Kakatiya.
