Fire kills 17 in Delhi

NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 12 - A fire broke led to the death of at least 17 people in the capital. Three people were injured as well. The incident happened in the fourth and fifth floors of Hotel Arpit Palace in Delhi's Karol Bagh.

Most of the people were sleeping at that point in time as it was early in the morning.
More than two dozen fire engines were rushed to the spot after the fire broke out at Hotel Arpit Palace around 4 am.



The incident happened in the Karol Bagh area of Central Delhi. This area is very popular among tourists and lined with hotels and markets.


Video recorded on cellphones by eye-witnesses showed huge flames crowning the terrace of the building.
The Police said that the reason behind most of the death was suffocation.

The staff of the Hotel Arpit Palace said that around 150 people were inside when the fire broke out. Virendra Singh, deputy fire chief, said 35 people had been rescued till now.
