2019 Innovative Index by Bloomberg

Bloomberg recently published the seventh edition of its annual Innovation Index where South Korea retain number one, with Israel surging several places to number five.

The index—comprising 60 countries, including India—is built on the basis of their capabilities in areas such as research and development spending, patent activity, manufacturing capability and concentration of high-tech public companies.

Germany came a close second to Korea whereas Israel overtook economies, including Japan, Singapore and Sweden. The US, which didn t figure in the top 10 last year, returned this time, ranked eight.

Coming to India India stood 54 among 60 countries on Which they conducted this audit. The Economists say that, "The battle for control of the global economy in the 21st century will be won and lost over control of innovative technologies. Korea’s number one spot and China’s shift up the rankings is a reminder that the U.S. trade war might slow but won t stop Asia s technological rise",-- Tom Orlik, Bloomberg Economics. Forbes is going to publish it article on the same in its February 15th edition as per their website.

The 2019 ranking process began with more than 200 economies. Each was scored on a 0-100 scale based on seven equally weighted categories. Nations that didn t report data for at least six categories were eliminated, trimming the total list to 95. Bloomberg publishes the top 60 economies.
