Adivasis sight loyalty to their community

Adilabad, Jan 31: Unlike in the plain areas in old Adilabad district, Adivasis besides conveyed unity in the villages by unanimously electing their sarpanches and ward members in most of the gram panchayats in the polls.

In very few gram panchayats, more than 3 members among the Adivasis had contested in the elections for sarpanch posts in the tribal areas.

Unanimously electing sarpanches and ward members shows their strict obedience to their traditional community rules and determining the problems good-naturedly in their village itself without approaching police stations.

However, most of them have been elected independently without having alliance to any party. Now major political parties are attracting them into their parties.

TRS is much ahead of other parties in drwing the elected Sarpaches into its pleat. It is to be seen how the elected Sarpanches and ward members will respond to the requests.

According to the information from polictical circles, In the observance of Lok Sabha elections TRS working president K.T. Ramarao is focusing on luring the sarpanches and ward members to strengthen the party at the grassroots.

The third phase of gram panchayat elections took place peacefully in the old Adilabad district. Nonetheless, police made detailed security arrangements for sarpanch elections in the remote areas to avoid adverse incidents.

Many candidates supported by the Congress party won as sarpanches in areas where the Congress party still has a hold in Kumarambheem and Asifabad, Nirmal and Mancherial districts. Congress party candidates were elected as Sarpanches in good numbers in Sirpur (ST), Asifabad and Mancherial and Nirmal Assembly constituencies.
