Timber smuggling in Nirmal

Nizamabad, January 22: As we know that Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has announced to the forest officials to take care of the wood smuggling, especially in village areas. Now Deputy Mayor of Nizamabad has participated in this operation.

Nirmal district police caught up on Monday a timber smuggling racket which involved 20 accused, including Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen party leader, Faheem, who is Deputy Mayor of Nizamabad Municipal Corporation. They are transporting teak wood from Adilabad forests to Nizamabad.


Not only this accused, the other accused are an Armed Reserve SI from Nizamabad -- Shakeel Pasha, Forest Section Officer, Utnoor, in Adilabad district -- Rajender, Soan forest check-post watcher, in Nirmal district -- Saddam, seven notorious Multanis timber smugglers of Adilabad district, three other sawmill owners Afazal Khan, Idris and Mizba Baig were also booked in the case.

The police arrested six accused and seized 126 teak logs worth 16.5 lakh, a lorry, and car used by the smugglers. On information, Nizamabad Forest Department seized one sawmill and have launched an investigation against owners of two other regarding their role in timber smuggling.
