AP New Assembly To Be Taller Than Statue Of Unity

Amaravati, Nov 24: Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Statue of Unity in the honour of late freedom fighter and former Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. At 182 metres, the Statue of Unity stands as the world s tallest statue.

Now, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced that the new Assembly in the state capital Amaravati will be taller than the Statue of Unity. The proposed new Assembly will be 68 metres taller than the Statue of Unity.

The design for the new Assembly is almost finalised by the CM. London-based world famous architect Norman Fosters, who had also designed several key administrative buildings in Amaravati, will soon submit the Assembly design s blueprint to the state government.

The government would issue tender notifications by November end and the entire process will be completed in two years. The new Assembly will be constructed with 3 floors and a tower spiralling 250 metres into the sky. For the Assembly, Chandrababu has approved a design similar to that of an inverted lily flower.

The Assembly building will also have 2 galleries of 80 metres and 250 metres respectively. While the first gallery will accommodate 300 people, the sessions gallery can host 20 people. Both the galleries will offer splendid panoramic views of Amaravati city. The second gallery will be entirely made of glass and will have elevators. The building will be cyclone and earthquake proof.
