Modi pays tribute to martyrs of 1971 war

New Delhi, Dec 16 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tributes on Vijay Diwas to soldiers who died during the 1971 India-Pakistan war."Vijay Diwas is a fitting reminder of the valour and sacrifice of all those who fought courageously in the 1971 war. Tributes to them," Modi said in a tweet.Lt. General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, the then Eastern Command chief of the Pakistani forces, along with 93,000 troops surrendered unconditionally after conceding defeat India s Lt. General Jagjit Singh Aurora in Dacca (now Dhaka) on December 16, 1971.It resulted in subsequent secession of East Pakistan and the birth of Bangladesh.
