Boxing legend Dennis Swamy passed away

Hyderabad May 17: Here is the sad news for boxing lovers as the City boxing legend Dennis Swamy passed away here on Tuesday after suffering a stroke. He was 74. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.While going to matter, he was Known as one of the best scientific boxer of yesteryears by his peers and the fraternity, Swamy was known as King of the Ring . He was crowned national champion for nine times and awarded Arjuna for his exploits in 1964. He also served as a boxing coach for Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh at the Gymkhana Ground.Swamy was first crowned national champion in 1961. He continued to dominate the national championship for the next six years on the trot. He bagged his eighth national champion again in 1969 to assert his supremacy. He was awarded Arjuna Award in 1968. He was unlucky to the miss the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 because of a clerical error."It is a huge loss for Indian boxing. Mr. Swamy was king of the ring in his prime. He will be missed," former World Cup bronze medallist V Devarajan said expressing his condolences.
