Mid-day meal in Junior and Degree colleges

Hyderabad, March 17: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, who is also in charge of Education Ministry, asserted that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government would take all required measures to planning to introduce mid-day meals for Junior and Degree colleges and also bring back the past academic excellence in government schools in the State. Replying to a spate of questions regarding the prevailing conditions in government schools during the Question Hour in the State Assembly, the Deputy Chief Minister said the State government had formulated a three-pronged strategy for improving conditions and standards in government schools across Telangana - to ensure 100 per cent admissions, provide uniforms to students and build required toilets in the schools.Srihari reiterated that these three main tasks would be fulfilled by June 12 this year. If there were any schools where these three tasks were not fulfilled, steps would be taken to achieve the same immediately once it came to the notice of the government, he added. The Deputy Chief Minister further said the State government would also ensure that all government schools in the State would have required toilets before the next academic year started. He also said that steps would be taken to ensure that two persons would be appointed to each school for cleaning and maintenance of toilets. Srihari pointed out that in all, there were 25,926 government schools comprising of primary, upper primary and high schools. Though at least one toilet was there in each school, lack of required water and non-maintenance had led to the closure of the toilets in many schools, he explained.
