Mahabubabad, March 09: The Telangana Irrigation minister T Harish Rao has been attended and had discussed about the re-engineering of irrigation Projects on SRSP stages 1 & 2 here on Wednesday in Mahabubabad.

He has taken Congress leaders to task for the "mindless criticism on redesigning of irrigation projects. He made it clear that they had gone for redesigning of the projects considering the water availability in the river and other benefits.

He laid the foundation for the construction of seven check dams proposed on the Paleru (6) and Akeru (1) streams with at an estimated cost of Rs 23 crore on Wednesday.

Addressing a public meeting at Kummarikuntla village of Danthalapally mandal after laying foundation for the check dam, the Minister said the erstwhile Warangal district would reap benefits first through the proposed Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project.

Refuting the charges of the Opposition parties on irrigation projects, Harish Rao said, "The Congress leaders are making unnecessary hue and cry over the redesigning of the projects, though we have done it after CWC gave its nod."

He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was committed to welfare of the farming community. Rao said nine-hour quality power was being supplied to the farmers, besides taking steps to see that there was no scarcity of seeds or fertiliser.

"Farmers used to stage protests for fertilizer and seeds in the past, but now the situation has completely changed," he added.

Earlier, the Minister conducted a review meeting with the officials of the Irrigation Department over plans to provide water to lands in Dornakal Assembly constituency under DBM 60 and 48 under SRSP stage 1 and stage 2 at Mahabubabad.

MLA DS Redya Naik, District Collector Preeti Meena, TRS Warangal district president T Ravinder Rao, and others attended the foundation-laying ceremony at Kummarkuntla village.
